The name Tivoli Gardens comes from the Jardin de Tivoli in Paris which was an amusement park near the Gare de Saint-Lazare (between 1795 and 1842 with variations in name, activities and size).
In the summer of 1951, Walt Disney visited Madurodam in the Netherlands, as did the Tivoli Gardens where he went on . These are a source of inspiration for the development of Disneyland in California.
Tivoli received around 4 million visitors a year in 2004, making it Denmark's main attraction.
